Spoken announcements on toggle switches

Toggle switches can now speak a custom message in a natural voice when their state changes — instead of just a beep.

When a user dials the feature code on a Toggle Switch (e.g. *60), the call can now confirm the new state with a spoken message in your own words, in a natural-sounding voice — instead of the original beep.

What changed

  • The Toggle Switch configuration modal has two new fields, one per state: "When toggled to State A" and "When toggled to State B".
  • Type whatever you want spoken — for example, "Now in Day Mode" or "Route to Frankie activated".
  • Each field has a Preview button so you can hear the result before saving.
  • Audio is generated with Piper using the Ryan voice (US English, male). Generation runs server-side at save time and produces a small WAV stored under your tenant's media folder.
  • Leaving a field blank keeps the default beep — single beep for State A, double beep for State B.

How to enable

  1. Open any call flow with a Toggle Switch node.
  2. Click Configure Toggle Switch.
  3. Make sure Announce State on Toggle is on.
  4. Type your announcements into the two new fields. Tap Preview to hear them.
  5. Save.

The next time a user dials the feature code, they'll hear the new announcement instead of the beep.

Why it matters

A beep tells you something happened. A short spoken phrase tells you what happened — particularly useful when a single switch can route calls to very different places (e.g. normal pickup vs. spam filter vs. holiday voicemail). Confirmation that you flipped to the right side, in plain English, with no extra steps.
